Israel Reports Brief Detention of Citizens at Moscow Airport

(MENAFN) Israel’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that around 40 Israeli nationals were briefly detained during passport control at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, according to reports.

The group was reportedly held for approximately five hours and questioned by Russian authorities. It included adults as well as children, and some individuals held dual citizenship.

Reports indicate that officials inspected mobile phones and asked questions related to the ongoing Iran–Israel tensions. Some passengers were allegedly told that Iran is considered an ally of Russia and that those seen as adversaries of Iran are also viewed as unfriendly toward Russia, with suggestions that their visit was “not desired.”

Following the incident, Israeli authorities issued a travel advisory discouraging citizens from visiting Russia.

In response, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov rejected the allegations, dismissing them as “carbon-copy statements” circulated in media coverage. He denied claims of detention, interrogation, or inappropriate treatment of Israeli travelers at the airport.

He also stated that Russia’s border procedures were being misrepresented and compared them to Israeli border control practices at Ben Gurion Airport, suggesting that similar or stricter measures occur there.

The ambassador added that Moscow remains open to continued professional dialogue with Israel regarding travel and border-related issues between the two countries.
