Russia Demands Probe into Journalist Killings in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Russia on Saturday called for a formal inquiry into the “murder” of three reporters killed in an Israeli aerial strike in southern Lebanon, urging that those accountable be held responsible and that such violence be halted to “end this bloody practice once and for all.”

In a statement shared via Telegram, the Russian Foreign Ministry conveyed its profound sympathies to the relatives and colleagues of the fallen journalists.

“The strikes were aimed,” the ministry emphasized. “Tellingly, they targeted an ordinary civilian vehicle carrying media workers en route to an editorial assignment.”

Officials further highlighted that the reporters had been clearly identified with press markings, “which nevertheless did not protect them from the precision-guided munitions attack.”

According to the ministry, Israel has attempted to deflect blame for the “serious crime” by alleging that militants disguised as journalists were present among those traveling in the targeted vehicle.

“That the Israeli military is capable of such attacks on civilians, which, according to international law, includes media workers, was demonstrated just 10 days ago, when an RT television crew was nearly killed under similar circumstances,” the statement continued.

A day earlier, the ministry had summoned Israeli Ambassador Oded Joseph to formally register a strong objection following another Israeli strike in Lebanon that injured journalists working for RT.
