Zelenskyy Warns of Possible Russian Strikes in Christmas
“Our negotiating team is now returning from Miami...In my view, everything possible that we needed to do for the initial drafts had already been done,” Zelenskyy stated in an evening speech following a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
He disclosed that a 20-point framework has been prepared, outlining security guarantees with European partners and the US. This includes a separate bilateral agreement with Washington that would require approval from the US Congress.
Addressing immediate dangers, Zelenskyy stressed that air defense remains the "number one issue" for safeguarding Ukrainian communities on Dec. 23, 24, and 25.
"We understand that precisely on these days, they may – this is in their nature – carry out massive strikes on Christmas," he remarked.
He explained that he instructed intelligence agencies to intensify efforts to provide a clearer assessment after Russia dismissed ceasefire proposals from Germany and the US.
Zelenskyy further admitted that Ukraine faces a shortage of air defense systems. To mitigate this, he revealed that Ukraine is negotiating a "strong contract" with the US to acquire "several dozen" Patriot systems through different programs.
