US envoy Witkoff to meet Putin to discuss Ukraine Peace Plan

(MENAFN) A US special envoy is scheduled to travel to Moscow on Monday to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss a potential peace plan for ending the conflict in Ukraine, according to reports from American officials.

The trip comes amid signs of progress in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, with efforts underway to advance a peace proposal aimed at concluding the nearly four-year-long war.

On Sunday, the envoy, who previously played a key role in mediating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, met with Ukrainian negotiators in Florida. The meeting also included senior US officials, as stated by reports.

One official described the discussions as "very productive." In remarks shared publicly, he stressed that the goal is "not just the end of the war."

"Obviously, that's essential and fundamental. We want to see the end of the killing and the death and the suffering, and I'm sure the Ukrainian side, I know they do as well," he said.

"They want peace. But it's also about securing an end to the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent and with an opportunity at real prosperity," he added.
